Bottom line is commuting sucks and commuting offline sucks even more. FWIW at my carrier we list in the back and will only take the jump seat if unable to non rev. It would be “beyond ridiculous” if I took the jump seat so a company non rev could get on while a Delta guy was trying to Jumpseat. I’d be tarred and feathered by my pilot group. Also, I wish I could list a head of time on Delta. Running to the gate hoping the agent isn’t too busy and in a good mood is harder than saying “I’m already listed”. One thing that people may not know is that you can list for a jumpseat at any service desk. You'll still need to check in with the gate agent to print your pass, but the "hard" work of doing the listing will already be done. Of course this only works if you have enough time and there isn't a crazy line at the help desk. But this works nicely if you're more than an hour from departure and the gate agent isn't even at the gate yet. Comes in handy sometimes.
