If you look good and sound good on the radio, then everyone automatically assumes you know what you're doing and it's all ok. It's a bit like sending a bit of audio valium over the airwaves. Drop your voice down an octave, add a little southern drawl or rasp, and suddenly everyone just knows you've got your feces consolidated (or you're a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is) and you can therefore get away with just about anything.
This is a universal truth. Anyone arguing about it's validity clearly has no airmanship and their opinion can be safely discounted.
