The Delta way is subpar to other airlines. Being able to list for both the JS and a non-rev seat is a QOL gain for the Delta pilot AND helps other Delta pilots or OAL pilots get the jumpseat to work. No other airline does it the Delta way that I'm aware of. We should take care of our fellow union pilots ahead of other non-revs.
I asked my rep about this a few years ago, and he told me that there had been resolutions about this over the years as well as periodic engagement with management.
He went on to tell me that there was some weird “religious issue” hangup with the then flight ops management, and the answer was not only no, but “this will never happen”. Of course they said that about the JS prior to ‘96, so you never know.
Not sure if the current flight ops management has the same hang up.
