It's my opinion that delays are delays, (ir)regardless of the reason. Once boarding is complete, the crew is now responsible and in charge, whether all is quiet, or an emergency evac is required, therefore we all should get paid for said responsibility.
A delay for de-icing is just that, just another situation that crews deal with in the safe performance of their jobs.
I think you’re implying it's about the company not wanting to pay us when delays happen? That’s actually incorrect…
The whole thing came about due to the Tarmac Delay program, and the hefty fines incurred by the FAA if an airline goes over a certain amount of time on a tarmac delay….the clock starts when the main cabin door is shut, whether you are still sitting at the gate or elsewhere.
The OP is misinformed. It’s not about having the main cabin door open during deicing at the gate. The company simply said don’t close the door until you have called for de-ice, have a game plan, and know where you are in the de-ice sequence. They don’t want you closing the door when you haven’t even setup de-icing yet, aren’t in the queue, and are #63 in sequence to get de-iced….
