Of course it’s happening. They wouldn’t require you to put down your race/ethnicity on the damn app. Why would that matter? Because you receive more points for it, end of story. I’m black and I know that helped me get hired at Delta. That’s why I’m well liked by others, I don’t lie to myself like some of these softies in the comments. I also made my way to Delta by passing upgrade training at SkyWest and new hire training at spirit adding another type with success. 2022 was a great year for me.
I personally can’t stand my fellow minority pilots who live in denial and act like they didn’t have an easier path. I find them pathetic tbh. Still have to pass training events, still have to pass the interview, but don’t act like everyone else doesn’t have to put in that work and then some.
What easier path? The problem is that all of a sudden there is a perceived surge in hiring people of color and now it is necessary to review the quality of candidates. Who is complaining about the low time/low experience non-minorities that are being hired in droves? This isn’t the first time airlines have had big hiring waves and lowered minimums to meet their needs. And guess what? As with previous hiring waves, the overwhelming majority of those who will benefit from the current hiring cycle will be male, and they WILL NOT be checking a box indicating that they are a minority.
