As a member of a privileged group (or an oppressed one depending on your leanings), I don’t feel divided at all. None of the people I work with are shoving their identities in my face, and I have
never been asked or expected to participate in an activity centered on a particular group. (Although I’ve been indirectly
invited to a few- gasp!) I speak openly about my family & social life & have never once been challenged or asked to stop. Ironically, the only time I really get the sense someone is trying to divide me into a group is when I read online postings from members of my own demographic.
Maybe I’m just too caught up in the “new orthodoxy”, but frankly it feels a lot like the old orthodoxy to me- show up, do your job, don’t be an a-hole, keep everyone safe, & leave it at work when you go home.
