Frankly it’s a bad corporate mindset to settle into. It breeds complacency and eventually mediocrity.
I don’t understand this thinking. At all.

Coming from a military background, every weapons system thinks they are the best. Every squadron thinks they are the best. It’s called esprit de corps, and it’s fostered. For a reason. It generates pride, and when done right and in a healthy way (got examples good and bad), it greatly enhances performance, cohesion, and camaraderie.

This ain’t the military, but it’s still translates enough. It’s still part of leadership 101 to tell your team, “you are the best”. Obviously, not everyone is, but the drive is what’s important.

Whether it’s NKAWTG, IFAAYAS, or one of dozens of squadron calls, pride is a key part of performance, regardless of the level of employee. It’s the opposite of what’s quoted above, actually.
