I would only bother for a regional if you have some serious background issue which might need to be addressed carefully and correctly.
In this climate that would probably be more than three checkride busts, non-traffic criminal convictions, or possibly multiple employment terminations. Stuff like that.
I guess I'll add that if there's one and only regional which has a junior base such that you can drive to work, I'd probably pull out all the stops to make sure I didn't screw that one up somehow. Interview prep is cheaper than commuting, on multiple levels.
