This line of reasoning cracks me up. Aren't reps supposed to represent their individual council? If their Council voted 80% + in favor and they voted no, did they represent their councils will??? I mean the overall percentage worked out (by coincidence) but so what.
With the benefit of hind sight, but then why have an MEC? Or all votes could be roll call so they get the percentages right based on polling.
