This is the best reason I’ve seen to allow the merger. Its obviously in the best interests of the Big 4 for the merger to go through. It takes out a competitor (Spirit) and remove $4B of cash from another competitor (JetBlue). I hope it goes through.
It's not Spirit that the big 4 want gone... JB has recent analysis showing the legacies respond to JB entering a market with fare reductions 3x more than they respond to Spirit entering a market.
And the DOJs complaint makes it clear that NK isn't chasing or attracting the same customers the legacies are, something I've been saying for a long time.
It's clear the legacies fear a bigger JB more than they fear NK.
