You can get away with it most likely, people do all the time. Maybe don't park right in front of the crashpad all the time. The fact that it's often out of sight out of mind at the employee lot will help.
They're probably tolerant of seeing the same AZ and NV plates occasionally... lots of people travel back and forth for various reason. If you have Connecticut plates, might want to get some Navy bumper stickers.
If it's an airport beater and you get hassled, just swap it out for a different beater.
Don't get North Dakota plates by mail, they know anyone can do that without ever setting foot in the state so they get triggered when they see ND plates. They assume you're dodging smog, which is probably a worse crime than dodging their taxes.
