It's embarrassing when uniformed crew members ask the van driver for change. "Here, I have this, but I only want to give you a little. Can you make change so I can give you the least possible? Can you break a five so I can give you a one?"
Grow up. Tip the damn driver.
Throw a hundred in fives in your bag and you'll always have a five to slip the driver. Go to Harbor Freight, buy a cheap screwdriver, and pry that wallet open. It may be painful, you'll live.
$5.00 per person X 8-10 per hour would mean that the driver is possibly making around $60.00 per hour. And much of that is un taxable to boot. How much is that service worth? I mean an Uber split amongst 4 people for a 15 mile trip might be $25.00 ish total. And 20% of that is $5.00 for the tip. Only an Uber driver's earnings are derived from their customers. And they are still responsible for thier own gas and vehicle upkeep. The hotel shuttle driver is earning approximately $12.00 an hour already and the hotel buys the gas and maintains the vehicle. I'd say that the shuttle drivers are doing alright with$1.00-$2.00 tips per person per ride. IMHO, $5.00 is a little excessive. But hey, you do you! But there's no need to talk down to others that don't share your opinion.
