We had a guy show up morning of with no issues. I think it's doable but 100% a personal call on what you're comfortable with.
IMHO - if traveling day of is going to create more stress for you that may not be the way you want to start your interview day. If there are backup flights later in the day and other personal/work considerations are driving you towards a one day trip then why not. Unsolicited advice is do what is best for you - what will set you up for success and make you feel comfortable and confident walking into the building.
I went the night prior even though I had an afternoon interview. It was nice to go to the gym that morning, get some food and coffee, study a little bit, and not feel rushed. That's what works for me personally to mitigate stress or distractions so I am focused only on the interview.
Best of luck with whatever decision you make and with your interview!
