It's not being cheap, it's more so the afternoon interview. I'm an early riser, so I'd have a lot of time to kill in the hotel in the morning. Even if I could get a late check out (I'd guess noon most places), I'd still have to find something to do to kill time before going to the interview.
Do you want to risk not getting a multi-million dollar job over missing a flight? Get there the night before, get good rest, have a great breakfast and have a stress free day till your interview.
