Here's the real problem. Most people severely overestimate their ability to be funny. True comedy is a rare skill. What most people do is reenact what they learned from others who were actually funny. A true comedian can say something that goes right to the line of being offensive but delivers it in a way that gets you on their side rather than excluding you. That skill requires you to read your audience and have some capability to experience empathy. The kind of person whose blood pressure rises when they hear DEI generally lacks the ability to relate to people outside of their comfort zone... which makes them a bad comedian.
