We had a pilot some years back that went through gender transition at a time when no one had. You all that have been around no who I’m talking about. Every conversation around this individual went like this. “Have you ever flown with (*****), she’s a great pilot. No one forced pronouns, and everyone recognized ability over identity. I’m sure this individual heard and saw everything because of the time but everyone saw them first as one of us. This would not happen today. “The Golden Rule” they speak of has been mandated out. How do you treat everyone as you want to be treated when you are bombarded all day and every day with messaging that says you must see them as different from yourself? I’m not sure what the answer is but we all have one thing in common, regardless of our outside life- our uniform. That’s where our focus should be, not what’s under it.
