I can’t tell you how many times when I went through Indoc our group was told “don’t worry about it we will do everything we can to get you through training, you’ll be fine.” Although, for the most part I see new hires doing well, with the experience level lacking what it used to be, I believe we need to change the mentality a little.
They did just change the training footprint for new captains. My understanding is that the short course is no more and all new captains have to go through the long course, even if just jumping the trash can. That’s probably a good thing considering our new hire experience level is much lower than historic levels and they can upgrade in a year.
