I think its risky to stay at a LCC. United is hiring 2000-3000 pilots every year for at least 5 years. Recession or not. We have 550 narrowbody planes on order and 100 787s with 100 options. We can’t just turn that off because of a few months of soft demand. I fly with a lot of FOs that came from LCCs and not one has ever said they made a mistake leaving. Pilots that left United to go to Fedex are now saying they wish they had not left United.
A pilot at an LCC has no control over what airline buys them in the future and what will happen to their assets, bases, etc. The economy might be in recession overall, but travel isn’t forecast to be in recession. Travel is forecast to increase. United is taking advantage of that.
I am still waiting for my spot on one of those 200 business jets on order for Avolar! I will probably be a Captain on the Boom supersonic plane before they arrive.
