The problem is the environment turned ugly. Freight is down everywhere. Many categories are at min BLGs. The 757 will soon be over staffed. The company announced a big savings plan while also showcasing a new network which relies much less on aircraft.
Are they down gauging aircraft because of less freight?
The company is still saying that they’re committed to supporting European 757 flying from the USA.
I agree with y’all on the scope issue. I wish fifth freedom rights were codified in the contract. It’s a big problem. We’ll lose any chance of having a decent contract, forget industry leading, We’re at the NMB stage and it’s played out … only one step away from striking and that is in progress as I type.
I thought NOW is the time? All kidding aside, if not now, when? Seven years later? I’m not saying to we should try to open a new section. I’m saying that if the TA isn’t fair, we vote it down. Then use that opportunity to open scope and also open other sections to improve things like sub and extensions, system bid lengths, deadhead fares, reserve, etc. But scope especially even if it’s the only other thing to be fixed.
None of us should be interested in what management says. So I don’t understand why you bring up what they said about 757s in Europe. If we were ok with just going with management says, we wouldn’t need a contract. Putting language in the contract is about protecting us from when management says and does one thing today and something different tomorrow. You know kind of like what is happening right now? This is contract 101.
Is lack of adequate scope protections important enough to vote down a TA? That is the question we will answer. I know how I’ll answer if it’s not in the TA because it’s more important than anything else in the contract including pay and retirement. But maybe that’s just me.
