When I started in early 2020, the only thing left for me to bid on was the 756, and have been on it my entire time here (ignoring the 11 months during covid when I was unqualified). I started in DC, and spent about 12 months in both LAX and SFO. I think west coast 756 is a hidden secret at United.

As was mentioned above, it is a basic reserve base. Because the bottom 30% of the base is a revolving door of new hires, sticking it out for a few months will get you a line. However, reserve on the west coast is not bad. Most of the stages are too long (5+ hours) to have any flight time left to get reassigned as a 'visiting reserve' and same is true when fishing a trip. We have a few redeyes, but most are covered by the base that the redeye is flying to (SFO-IAD flown by IAD, same with EWR, ORD). That is not a rule, but for example May has less than 30 IDs with a redeye flight, so if you get the short call that covers the redeyes - there is a very good chance that unless the FO flying the trip is on their deathbed - they are going to operate their flight back to domicile - and you won't be used.

The flying is generally not fatiguing, with the vast majority of days having 1 leg. With a little bit of seniority or being proficient with crew companion (our trip trade system) - you can exclusively fly bankers hours. Like what was mentioned above - the flying is not very interesting unless you really like Kona, Honolulu, Boston, or Chicago - but it is fun to learn neighborhoods and areas you like in the cities we frequent.

If you live within driving distance of SFO - I say do it if you have interest in flying the 756. You will sleep in your own bed a ton because so many of our trips are 2 days, and thats what you can pick up on reserve generally. The crews are awesome too!

Have fun and welcome to United. Feel free to PM me with any other questions.
