You're thinking of Meryl Getline. Had a column in USA today up til early 2007 I think. Was a UAL 777 captain, ORD based, now retired. Her husband is a retired UAL 747 captain. I used to read he columns often and they *seemed* reasonable and accurate. She still has a website and does aviation writing.
Unfortunately at UAL we were all aware of who Meryl was.
Yep Meryl was a scab she got fired for taking pictures from the flight deck at low altitude breaking out on an approach while PIC. Then published the darn things on her public web site!!
My advice to any of her readers is to take what she writes about her aviation exploits with a grain of salt.
I read an excerpt from her book where she claimed to have exited the aircraft in flight and wing walked out on the strut to retrieve her log book which had blown out the window and was stuck on said strut.....
