Age 65 is an arbitrary age, but in a career like ours where literally the only way to advance your career is with mandatory retirements, a limit has to be set. This bill also came across because of regional airports are losing airline service, there's not many lifers at regionals where they would see much benefit to this. They more have a problem of sucking out from the bottom of the seniority list, not the top. The way to fix this is bringing all flying into mainline, not a bandaid fix that won't stop regional captains and first officers leaving en masse. So all this does is screw over fellow pilots.
If a new age is passed one thing will be for certain, there will eventually be pilots working at age 65-67 while pilots are on furlough.
