Legitimate question. So, how many folks have been called for an interview belonging to one of the DEI groups vs those that don't?
In my interview group there were five of us. Four white males (all late 30’s at the youngest and older) and one white female (probably the young side of mid-30s). All very well qualified and seemingly good people. There weren’t any 2000 hour wonder kids or obvious “DEI interviewees”. This was just this spring.
I also have a friend who is “of color” who’s a great pilot and an even better human being who interviewed and got the TBNT not too long ago. As well as a Hispanic acquaintance that got the TBNT.
I don’t deny that UAL is trying to be a bit more diverse in their hiring, but from my limited personal experience the “hiring for skin color/reproductive plumbing, not qualifications” cries are blown a bit out of proportion.
