We basically have set up ourselves for this with our city designs, letting businesses convince us that the most important things are to go to college, start a family and have kids, buy a house, etc., there's no time for healthy lifestyle or open natural areas you can get to just to stretch your legs. It's all about consumption, riding texas-wheelchairs (side-by-sides), e-bikes, short-cuts, making life so easy that you just get fat...
