When I commuted there I liked staying at the Sahara and often found deals around $50/night. They did a great job with the renovation. This was just after reopening post-COVID so it might be different now but there's always a deal to be had somewhere in Vegas
Just read that the Tropicana is to be torn down now for a new Baseball stadium to house the Oakland A's who are moving to join the Raiders in Vegas.

Probably will include the Oyo (hooters) as well, the only place on the strip that I know of where you can play BJ, Craps and Roulette for $1 tables.

Lastly, across the street from the Mandalay Bay is the new building housing the Pinball Hall of Fame. Don't let the name throw you though, entry is free and they at least one of almost every pinball game ever made and they all operate on quarters (including the newest pinball games). Down each side of the building is just about every 80's video arcade game you ever played from Asteroids through Qbert and everything else, again all just run on quarters. Money they collect is used to fix up and buy more games when they are found. Great inexpensive experience on the strip.
