This is what people didn’t understand decades ago when they thought everyone deserved a college education. For holders of unspecialized degrees it becomes worthless if everyone has one. Just like when u magically print money it becomes less valuable. When I was at Emirates a majority of our FAs had at least a bachelor’s degree, but since it was given away for free in many of their countries it became worthless as a hiring credential.
It’s a simple concept. Make the public believe you’re providing “help” via financial assistance to minorities, people in need, etc. Looks good, sounds good, everyone can get behind that! but that “making college affordable for all” is really just a federal loan that will be paid back IN INTEREST.
That’s not an interest payment on your federal loans, it’s just a new way the federal government found a way to tax you. Higher tuition benefits the federal government via higher collection on their interest rates. That’s why they’ll never fix the actual problem.
