Just my .02, it’s not the in-base layover specifically, it’s their (being a combination of the SSC and the company, let’s be honest they are both complicit), implementation. When the 220 first came on property we had 26 hour 4 days that were all in base layovers with a FLL turn each day. All day time flying. In fact, it’s some of the best flying I’ve had in my career. So it is definitely possible to have high credit multi day trips in-base.
Just like if you were making three wishes on a genie lamp, we need to be very, very specific in what we ask for in the JCBA. “No in base layovers? No problem enjoy 30 hours in DTW at the Livonia Courtyard on your 20 hour 4 day that starts early and transitions to a late show on day 4.” I know these are mostly commuter problems but I have no doubt you could see day trips be 5 hour BUF, DCA, or CLE turns and the SJU you referred to be part of a 2 or 3 day.
The in base layovers worked for the 220 because there were few of them with very little options or flexibility of city pairings. That's not the case with the 32X. Get rid of in base layovers and min daily credit, not min trip credit would solve a lot of these issues.
