I live in SC and I've done both ATL717 and DTW717. At this point in time if I lived in CLT I would definitely bid the 717, probably in DTW. With the rumored move toward more regular AE bids you could just get on the airplane and then if you aren't happy with the base you're in you could transfer to the other and try it out too.
One data point: DTW July bid package has 640 trips. 120 of them have CLT overnights. ATL has 912 trips with 134 having CLT overnights. Either one gives you a lot of options.
There are a lot more commuters going to ATL than DTW, so less competition for the jumpseat in DTW.
Probably better seniority in DTW.
Plus being ATL based requires you to fly in and out of ATL more --> DTW the clear winner here!
What’s wrong with flying in and out of ATL? Phenomenal controllers, ramps open on both ends so no getting stuck in an alley, if you break they have spare parts or spare airplanes. Never understood all the angst about flying in and out of ATL. Someone please explain.
