It’s a comparison of the sum totals of reserve coverage for what you’re dropping vs picking up.
For example, you’re scheduled for a 4 day trip from Monday to Thursday. The reserve coverage for those 4 days is -5 per day for a total of -20. If there’s a 2 day in open time for Friday and Saturday and the reserve coverage is -11 on each of those days for a total of -22, you can swap the 4 day for the 2 day.
