Default Counterproposal

APA email is morning:

[...]

  • Increased days off for Reserves (made industry standard by UA)
  • TTS software improvements and OTL enhancements
  • PBS software enhancements
  • 1:1 RIG for FDPs > 10 hours (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • Increased sick accrual (made industry standard by UA)
  • Minimum Flightdeck Crew language (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • Improvements to pairing construction language (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • Increased LCR call out time (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • AAL pilot will not be removed from jumpseat due to weight restrictions (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • No sequences built with one or more deadheads prior to a redeye sequence (made industry standard by UA)
  • Positive space for RA/RO that return outside original footprint (made industry standard by UA)
  • Industry standard DH language (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • Minimum Calendar Day of 2:30 (made industry standard by UA / DL)
  • Second jumpseat on new aircraft language (made industry standard by UA)
  • No blocked trips before PBS run (made industry standard by DL)
  • 5 hours pay and credit for training (made industry standard by UA)
  • Reimbursement for medical procedures to regain certificate for LTD (made industry standard by UA)
  • Cross-town surface pay JM/RA/RO (made industry standard by UA)
  • Supplement L improvements to match industry standard (made industry standard by UA/DL)
  • International override as percentage versus fixed rate
  • Pay by cabin door closure
  • Min 100% PM during Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons (made industry standard by UA)
  • True snap up parity (made industry standard by UA/DL)

While these items were included in the proposal, some of the finer details are problematic:

  • Pay rate and 401(k) anniversaries set to January 1 are contingent on UA ratification
  • Secondary Ratification Bonus (“retro”) was based on a complicated formula that was tied to average hours worked for a bid status, versus a retroactive payment based on an individual pilot’s earnings
  • Snap up provision was incomplete and did not adequately consider additional raises for the duration of the agreement and is contingent on UA ratification

We believe every one of these items is reasonable, represents parity with the industry standard, and should absolutely be attainable in short order. Simply put, we insist that American Airlines pilots are just as deserving of these quality-of-life items and work rules as our peers at Delta and United. Scott Kirby has shown he is committed to investing in his pilots and has offered them a contract that demonstrates that commitment. We call on Robert Isom to do the same; our pilots deserve nothing less.
