Can you define the minus 10 a bit better? It was pretty normal on some aircraft to turn the autothrottles off in gusty conditions. If you were going to do that you needed a wind additive. Did you have an additive? Minus 10 to plus 10 is not uncommon in gusty conditions. Was power added when the aircraft got slow? If not was the go around you called for executed properly? If you landed what was the pitch attitude at touchdown?
Going back to your original point it’s difficult to take a transport sized aircraft from someone safely at 50 feet. If you felt the aircraft was in an unsafe state the correct answer is “ Go Around”.
