Because for many pilots, it does. You don't know what life is going to throw at you in these few years when you're at a regional, but believe me, your outlook will be changed in the time that you work there, wherever it may be.

Quite whining and complaining. Even if you do get on with a regional with good QOL, you won't upgrade fast and will be sitting at that same salary, or close to it, for years. If you start lower and get paid less, chances are you'll upgrade quicker and move on and make more money and be further down the road in the long run. It's not rocket science.
What seems to be the right decision for you is not right for everyone. Your argument here is no better than the guy that thinks his life "begins and ends with QOL at a regional."
