Because we don't want problem children, dirtbags sitting next to us. Thankfully that attitude is shared with our interview team. It is often said that every group has its 5-10% a**hole factor. At Southwest, that number is way less than 1%. The a**holes and dirtbags are so far and few in between, they're known, easily remembered and stick out like a sore thumb. I'm glad that our interview team still stands as the guard of our pilot culture here and keeping the undesirables out. Now, they don't get it right 100% of the time, but so far, I like their batting average. Attracting and retaining pilots is company's problem, not ours.

And they interview like that can afford to reject people. At Frontier and spirit it's just a hi who are you, 3 tmaat, and the most basic ifr questions. Southwest makes it seem like you are interviewing to become a Google CEO.
Go to Frontier or Spirit then.

So with all these people quitting, or getting the type then bouncing... Or going to a legacy... They are still rejecting people in droves? Is the HR departments ego really that high
Pilots are the ones doing the interviews here. And if you didn't make it, you failed to impress. Keep in mind, the interviewers only have a very limited time to get to know you, and if you failed to impress, then chances are you won't fit in here. Despite all the crap we're going through right now, one thing I absolutely LOVE about this place, and that has not changed, is our pilot group. I'm 200% behind them rejecting the undesirables. Again, it's on company to attract and retain the right talent.
