I’ve flown the 737 both with autoland and HUD and I’ll take autoland every day. I can’t stand that HGS. 33 years of flying looking at instruments and now all of the sudden I have to relearn what I’m looking at while squinting at unfamiliar symbology that gets washed out by the sun because we’re too cheap to buy the sunshades that clip onto the plate of glass it’s projected on to.
Plus, using both autopilots for autoland, the airplane is capable of an autopilot flown go around, which would hopefully reduce some of the crazy go around videos we’ve had to watch during CQ over the last several years…
