United Next isn’t going to go as originally planned. On the UAL side, plans are being slowed by delayed aircraft deliveries and hundreds of unfilled captain vacancies. On the UAX side, the 50 seaters are going to eventually be phased out and all flying will be done with the current allotment of 70/76 seaters (UAX will therefore be smaller). I don’t think there are any plans to shrink the 70/76 seat flying, it’s that a lack of captains has made staffing them impossible for the moment.
