The answer to that question however I am sure has already been determined by the FDR. A Trunnion failure also does not normally drive the strut up through the wing. It might be months before the real cause is released. The recent Delta evacuation in Atlanta is rumored to be a hard landing but nothing is out yet.
A Trunnion failure is exactly what happened to Sun Country in LAS recently….same results.
