A trained observer from a distance is seeing flames come from your aircraft. Why are you waiting? If it’s because you were told to, what reason did they have for wanting you to wait?

I’m curious when and how you know if/when simple becomes something not simple.
You wait because the evacuation has the potential to be way worse than the threat of a fire which you can’t see. Let’s not forget a girl was ran over and killed in San Francisco during an evacuation. The circumstances were different but it shows that there is risk.
