I’m mostly kidding with that comment….but it’s also basically accurate.
Quite a few of us were THRILLED to get hired here, regardless of the crappy assignment we were stuck with for the first 2 years. I had to commute to FO reserve…halfway across the country…for the entire 2 years….and I LIVE in a United domicile. Nobody paid me $300k a year to do it. I was still ecstatic to get my chance.

times have changed most new hires now have multiple offers, forced Capt bids will excite some and turn some away, optional Capt bids would be way better in my opinion. That way if you don’t feel ready don’t take it, if you are ready and want it, have fun.
