I agree. In indoc I was tempted to bid the equipment I wanted in a different base across the continent, but decided to bid NB at home instead. It turns out, I could have got back to my base in that equipment within a couple months, but had there been some major world event and the music stopped, I could have been stuck commuting transcon. Because I was NB, I could have conceivably bid up to that equipment in base on any subsequent vacancy, but didn't feel like restarting training. But- I had options and if the music had stopped I would have been in home base.

In short, bidding NB in your hometown base keeps all your options available once the equipment you want is offered in a subsequent vacancy.
