Especially the existence of Global Reserve, FDO’s for basic reserve, and the ability for the company to work anyone into their day off for a small fee. As a narrowbody reserve, that’s 4-5 days a month I can’t plan anything. Reserve was a choice for me, but once my seat lock is up WB FO sounds pretty appealing. At least we can force the junior guys into the trash we have created for them, right?
My daughters are all grown so I honestly don’t care what days I work… but when they were younger I was a more senior WB FO and bid lines. For reserve, Rarely do I work into an RDO… maybe been rolled two/three days total in a year. I’m at the gline as a Captain and selectively bid reserve because I live 15 mins from airport and work much less. I normally have 5x SC a month. I only aggressively pickup open trips that are either places I want (ie, LIS vs LHR) to fly to and/or it looks like I’ll get assigned to eventually (3 open trips and 3 RSV in silo) . Normally these trips picked up are ones that I wouldn’t get as bottom feeder line holder. I also aggressively pickup SCs if I don’t want to fly or a trip I don’t want. WB FO in reserve is easy if you live in domicile.
