Also, used RDOs get restored, so it's not like anyone's losing days off. Some smart reading of open time, coupled with a tactical aggressive pickup and the 24hr block after global trips, usually avoids RDOs being used entirely.
New TA also makes it harder for the company to use RDOs. It has to be advertised at 50% PPU first, and then if someone is rolled they now get 5:15 add-pay in addition to LPV.
My days off aren’t fungible. I’m really glad to see some changes that reduce the likelihood of getting rolled into RDO’s but it still makes me want to avoid global reserve. My concert or dinner with friends or trivia night can’t be replaced with getting a random Thursday later in the month back.
People make it work really well and that variety is what makes working for a huge legacy carrier awesome; that you can find your niche, but for some of us getting nonspecific days back is pretty meaningless against losing specific days/plans. I think the ability to split your HDO’s will be a huge game changer though.
