One thing I don’t understand is why the government gives backpay to employees for work they didn’t do. They furlough the non-essential employees, then make them whole when they come back from furlough.
It helps if you understand that shutdowns are all pomp & posturing. They inconvenience everyone & accomplish very little beyond proving that certain congressmen are willing to “stand their ground”; which of course, after proving, they ultimately back down from.
