pre- 911 their starting pay $47/hour (not taking into account inflation)… it’s much less today. They get like $8 pre-tax to board for 40 minutes, so for $5 there is not much incentive.. and they don’t have to serve pre-departure beverages per their work rules.. I’m sure if Delta paid them their normal rate during boarding they would every time… and if pax were friendlier these days and more respectful.

but I would bet they had a legitimate reason for opting out of pre-departure beverages, so don’t be scared to ask next time. You might learn something!
Have you even completed your IOE at Delta? You have your opinion on a subjective matter, as do I. Nobody can be wrong or right My observations are based on 30+ years of observing a decline in the level of service as a commuter and profligate NRer. Yes, there can be "reasons".

That doesn't change the fact that, now they get boarding pay but they do less than previously. If one is in service industry, better service is a reasonable expectation. And according to you, more pay should equal better service!

Thank you for your input. So, were you a flight attendant previously or is your significant other a FA? I am interested only as data point in understanding your perspective vis-a-vis, mine.
