Howdy folks. Just an update post, probably won’t make the next one til I have a wet ATP - or maybe just wait for a return date to TK.

I worked SFO line maintenance for 3yrs, then bid into a sim mechanic spot in Stapleton. Spent just under six years total with the company before taking a leave of absence to attend our little desert 141 program in May 2022. Now I’m slogging through CFI lesson plans, anticipating a good long wait between now and the Initial checkride.

It seems like we’re way slower than expected, but that’s just startup growing pains I guess. Some folks have gotten mad about it. Other folks (who came in as instructors) departed for NK or F9. I recently heard a couple feel-good presentations from some Company people, reiterating the promises about us eventually hitting 1200 TPIC and being in a UA class within 120 days. We’ll see if that deal gets altered any further going forward, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Overall I think we’re doing OK for a flight school. It is a 141 after all, so with realistic expectations I figure we’re average-ish. We truly seem to train to proficiency (I say as someone who hasn’t experienced much of the remediation process) and it seems like we’re bringing a lot of good people to the fold. The visiting pilots and other folks are quite excited to remind us we wear the same briefing cards issued on the Line. It’s enough I think I’d like to stay and instruct here, so hopefully I can pass their interview and become more a part of the process.

If anyone wants to hold court and kick back in or around PHX - especially on the west half - shoot me a message. Looks like I’ll be here a while, and I’m happy to hear any and all advice or questions.

Fly safe,

KH
