If you haven't already, listen to the "Behind the Bastards" two part podcast on Frank Lorenzo. It's a good history lesson on how Lorenzo and the other titans of business took advantage of deregulation and the Reagan presidency to crush organized labor in the industry.
I just listened to this podcast. It was excellent. If you have no plans to read Hard Landings or Flying the Line, spend a little time listening to this podcast. There are some surprising parallels with what WN is doing today. Lorenzo's penchant for walking back agreements and renegotiating for better terms for example. (Maternity leave)
If they want to continue to follow the Lorenzo playbook they're going to hit a brick wall when they try to find pilots to cross a picket line or to run a skeleton airline staffed by scabs. Don't see it happening in this day and age.
