It's a long standing FOM policy, but not contractual. If the backup flight is on Delta then scheduling can positive space the pilot.
If the backup flight is scheduled to arrive prior to scheduled report, then the scheduler doesn’t have any discretion and will provide us with positive space every time.
The catch is that it’s not contractual (only company policy), and the policy gives the company the right to exclude any pilot who overuses it from future use.
