ALPA is a political machine. They don't want your opinion. If you go there with the intent to 'change things', 1 of two things will happen. 1) you will be shut out of any meaningful involvement in anything, or 2) you will get discredited. There is an agenda, and while you might think that 'volunteering' and being involved makes your a part of that system, you aren't... UNLESS, you agree with the inner circle and lick those boots. I know several guys that went there with the intent of making changes, and those things are exactly what happened to them.
