How about we allow pilots to see a therapist with no requirement to report it on your medical? Therapists already have a duty to report on someone who may harm themselves or others. I'd bet we'll see a ton of people start therapy if this was passed.
At the very least, leave it up to the AME to make the ultimate decision to approve someone for a medical. There's no need to send 99% of medicals to Oklahoma City. (If there was ever a reason in the first place)
I'm not sure where this information is formally published, but the Federal Air Surgeon says the current guidance to AMEs is to only make checking that box required if you are there for stuff related to personal substance abuse or psychiatric condition
