You're right about everything except it being phenomal. The increase to the pension was lackluster at best, even for those retiring this week. It barely adjusted it back to the same purchasing power as when we first started negotiating with the company.

401k limits can go down. Tieing anything to a limit that is arbitrarily changed by the govt is a bad idea.

Now we have no real idea what the company numbers are since ALPA won't tell us, or they don't know. But all the union saying the company cannot afford to increase the A plan really does not make sense at least to my simple math. It's not costing them anything now.
This... the 160/170 numbers for the pension increase in TA1.0 were probably derived from how much the company could afford to increase the pension without adding more money to the fund.

The company outsources the administration anyway. But yes. The pension is a company problem, and we should keep it their problem unless they handsomely reward us to make it not their problem. 11% MBCBP is not a handsome reward or even close to fair if we're being honest.

Bingo. It's all about having money in multiple pots. Honestly we should keep A fund with the modest increase from TA1 (that likely didn't cost the company anything), do a modest increase to DC fund, and then bring in cash over cap with spillover into MBCBP.
