The Dept of Transportation is considered an embarrassment to the Biden administration. A year ago Buttigeige declared the FAA was at a crisis level with controllers, 3000 short. Under his diversity recruitment war plan standards were dramatically lowered and the FAA went out into the communities to drag people in to fill his quotas. But, like pilots., controllers normally need to be people with that dream and people who are dragged in don't necessarily do a good job or make it through training. So after more than a year, Buttigeige only increased the number of controllers by 6! And in the next year they are hoping to bring that up by maybe 200 more. To do that they are going to take some people and take them out of some parts of training and put them right into the towers and control centers.

Having the experience level of pilots keep going down is a big problem when combined with the controller shortage.
